Massey ferguson rocker arms

a man called and wants me to fix his massey with a 3 cyl. perkins engine. says it has been in the shop 3 times for the exact same problem.it keeps breaking rocker arms after running a couple hours.is this a common proublem ? and is there a permenet fix. call or email. jerry 254-784-0244

I would say the head of the valves is not setting deep enough the head. I can not remember the exact depth but the best I remember it should be somewhere around 0.070 to 0.080 below the service of the head on the diesel. I do not remember what it is on the gas. I have run across this problem several times on those engines when they had new valves & seat installed. You need to check a factory manual it tells the correct valve head depth.

One other thought , maybe the installed height

of the valve guide is too high , hitting the

spring retainer .
