NAPA Oil Filters

I don't know how applicable this might be to tractors other than some in the AC line, but thought I would post it here just in case.

There is a problem with low oil pressure when using the newer, redesigned NAPA oil filter #1101. This filter may fit tractors other than AC and there may be similar filters with other numbers that work on the same principle that have also been so redesigned.

If your tractor's lubrication system uses a bypass style filter and you are using a NAPA (or WIX, which makes the filters for NAPA) oil filter, you might want to check out this post on the AC forum and the link therein.

I agree. Good work. Unfortunately some on the board don't quite understand the mechanics of the bypass oil filter system on their engines.
On these type there will always be a fraction of the oil flow, otherwise destined for the engine bearings, going thru the filter and directly back to the sump.
On the better systems (like my oliver 90) the oil filter has built in protection to terminate oil filtering if the inlet pressure falls below a minimum, and will bypass unfiltered oil to the sump if the pressure builds up in the filter shell.
The engines which rely on oil flow in the filter being controlled by the pressure drop across the filter need an extra restriction - ie a smaller oil outlet into the filter (and this will possibly block unless it is fitted with a jiggle pin). Can't win really. So much for 'so-called' progress.
Regards, RAB
