I have a GM altenator fixed to make a one wire altenator and am trying to put it on my Ford 800.
Can anyone tell me how to wire it up?

Most Model "A" Ford parts supplies have a single wire alt setup. They tell me that they are getting them to charge at low rpm. They also have a small pulley for the wide v belt. This helps speed up the alt and start it charging quicker.

If you want it I have a diagram and parts list I used for a two wire setup on my Model "A" and a friends old IH. It is for a standard NAPA off the shelf alt. It will start charging just off idle. about 450-500 rpms for a Model"A"

Also the web site below, a Model "A" supplier, has the single wire alt's, brackets and pulleys.

It looks like there are alot of issues and solutions that old tractors and Model A's have in common.

Hope this helps
Jerry

Hook the wire to the battery cable at the selnoid or starter. Also generally you will need to rev up the tractor engine in order to kick the alternator off. If you don't rev up the engine the alternator will turn but not charge. Easy way to tell if it is charging is to place a screwdriver blade to the back center of the alternator. If it is charging the blade will be held on to the alternator like a magnet. hope this helps

If you have an ammeter then you want to hook it to the ammeter post that ISN'T connected to the battery. If you hook it directly to the battery your ammeter will always show a discharge, whereas if you hook it to the proper ammeter post then you will get a true indication of whether or not your battery is being charged.

Bob, good point. I thought about the ammeter after I posted. The last tractor I put one one did not have an ammeter.
