I have alot of johnson grass and some of it is mixed in with bermuda that I want to keep. Does MSMA kill johnson grass? And will it kill my bermuda? Thanks for any help. R Wyler.

We use a herbicide named "ALLY". I think it is supposed to kill about anything but bermuda. Don't know about Johnson Grass for sure. Have used for the last two years on Bermuda hay, and also on Yuma Bermuda. Have the yard and the hay field looking really good.

MSMA and DSMA, one is 5% and the other is 7% arsenic will kill the Johnson grass to the ground. I don't think that the roots will be affected and it will come back. I have used one of these in my yard. After the other grasses and weeds die, put the nitrogen to the bermuda. It is amazing. Makes a pretty yard.

Thank you for the information I was thinking of giving the bermuda a dose of fertilizer. I will have to see what herbicides I can find. Thanks again. R Wyler.

MSMA is used for golf courses and will kill J-grass. May have to mix rather strong though. MSMA is not labeled for use in pastures or hay ground. A herbicide called Plateau is though. It is supposed to kill most grasses except bermuda.

Thank you very much for the information. I will look around and see what I can find. I may try some MSMA and also look into Plateau. Thanks again. R Wyler.

I'd think long and hard about using MSMA or DSMA on hay or pastures. These are arsenic compounds, all plants in the pasture will take up arsenic, including the bermuda. I think they will also pretty hard on the bermuda. As I learned weed science these compounds work because plants with C4 photosynthesis take up arsenic faster than C3 plants (like the cool season grasses). Plus I would be really concerned about killing whatever animal ate the hay or pasture. These chemicals are labeled for lawns or golf courses where nothing will be eating the grass for a reason.

Thank you that is important to know I am wanting to get rid of the johnson grass in my yard it is a bigg yard and I am just getting the place re-landscaped as I just bought it last winter and it was in desperate need of maintainence.
