I teach Junior Hi. English in a public school in a rural farming community. The discussion of the orign of words, phrases, and expression. We have all heard the expression,"Get the H out." Well one eighth grade boy said that his daddy was a collector of old tractors and their garage was almost too full of old tractors for the family sedan. They had purchased a John Deere H put it in the garage and there was no place for the car so his mother threw a fit and told the father to get the "H" out.

You do realize that 'get the H out' of here refers to "Get the he!! out of here" don't you?
It's just the polite way to say it.
Kinda like 'h-e-double toothpicks'.

The tractor story sounds more polite

Here's one for you, heard on the radio.
Many years ago, a lady sent her little lad up to the local farm for a jug of milk, just as she done so for years. The lad came home with an empty jug and told his mom "The farmers wife says we can't have any more milk cos the cows have got 'two little horses'" Suffice to say 'mom' was rather puzzled by this so she went up to the farm, and asked the farmers wife what the problem was.
It turns out the cows had Tuberculosis!

She knew what she was talking about. No need to have one of those green smelly things taking up valuable space in a garage.

Hey! Hey! Back off a little bit Les. No need to discriminate even if the pulley does run backward on an H. Ed
