I have a 1936 W40. I would like to find a 6 or 12 volt starter for it . It has a red diamond 6 cylinder engine and a place to attach a starter. The ring gear is already on the flywheel and it
has 158 teeth. The parts people have told me if I could get a OEM cast number from the front starter piece that attaches to the tractor,
they could find me a starter.

Any help would be much appreciated.

W40 starter listed in my book is a Delco Remy # 943-V or a 1841209. Maybe this will help your shop to find something.

I have 2 Wk40's 1 with starter and the other had the place for a starter. Knowing what I was looking for, I found a starter on E-bay that looked like it would work. This starter was off a 450. It had the 3 bolt pattern and looked like the nose cone would work. It had the same number of teeth on the gear and bolted right up. Only problem the rotation was in the wrong direction. I took it to a starter-generator shop and they redid the whole starter using my nose cone and other parts of my old starter. I have another starter now and it cost me less than $100
