If it's just pitted a little and not rusted through and no sharp edges, just throw a tube in it and it should be fine. If it's the larger size valve stem hole (tubeless) they have little plastic inserts to convert the hole size to a small valve stem size, problem fixed even better. You may be able to cover any sharp edges with a piece of patch or a boot to prevent the tube from being punctured.

Hi Jer,

Since the holes are not rusted thru, I would use a torch and add some lead solder in the pit area. This was the old way of doing body work. You will need some flux (acid) to clean the area where the solder sticks too. Some plumbers solder flux works well or murratic acid (pool acid).

Heat the area well to clean off all oils then add flux then add solder 50/50, 60/40 etc, then finish. This will last a very long time. Wheel weights works well for solder.

Don't know what kind of a tractor you have but if you use RAB's suggestion below about drilling another hole, a couple of things to remember. First, some designs line up the valve stem with a slot in the wheel hub and if the rim only fits on the hub in one location then the stem will hit the hub. If that isn't a concern, make sure you file the edges of the hole smooth and rounded off before putting the tube in or you might get some cutting of the rubber part of the stem.

Drill another hole for the valve. That way, you can be sure it's not pitted with rust. Braze a plate over the other hole, fill, smooth and nobody would know it was ever there.

Good advice RAB
My brother did that on his old JD50 when the hole got rusted too big..
Then he glued a 4" X 4" piece of 3/16 thick rubber on the inside of the old hole with silicone. JD is still having to earn it's keep so it didn't have to be pretty.
Been a couple of years now and the tire is still up and good.

JB Weld or Quik steel paste will fill the holes and you can sand it smooth and paint it unless it is rusted really badly thru

Also agree with rod. Have used JBWeld on my front rims, and so far so good.

I will go with Rod on this one. JB weld and sand out smooth on pits. Last as long as the rim will. T-bones method is the best (as usual) however you will wind up with a lot of burnt paint which may or may not make a difference to you-also takes a little torch talent which if you are like me may be a shortcoming----Jack
