I have a tractor that I was told was a high-clear IH Utility tractor. When I placed it for sale in YT's photo-ads, someone told me it looks like a 606. I have a picture of it on my website if anyone would like to try and help. Thanks, Matt.

There's a very strong possiblity that it's a 606. It can't be a 460, because they had different sheetmetal. The other possiblity is that it's a 656. Take a close carful look for the engine model number. It's stamped on the block's main oil galley, to the rear of the oil filter base. If it's a 606, it will have a C-221 engine, if it's a 656, it will have a C-263 engine. It is also definetly a High-Utility, because of the row-crop type rear axles and wheels.

Just looked at the photo again, I'm 99% sure it's a 606. Just verify that by finding the engine model number. I must also mention that you have a very rare tractor on your hands.

Thanks for the information. I looked at the engine and it says "C221 42087" in small letters. So, I guess that means its a 606? You mentioned they were rare, how many of these high 606's were made? I'd love to learn more about this tractor. If it is a collectible tractor, maybe I should hang on to it?

Thanks,
Matt

Yep, definetly a 606. Only two IH tractors had the C-221 engine, the 460 and 606. I don't think there is a way of knowing how many high-clears were built, because the high-clear version was an option, not a seperate model. I can tell you that any 606 is pretty rare, I've only seen one 606 in person. If I were you, I'd restore that one. It is one of the most unique IH's I've ever seen.

It does resemble a 606. Does it have a 221 ci 6cyl? I think the 460 and 606 used this engine.

Matt, I don't have an answer to your question but I looks like a neat tractor. I'm not up much on those "newer" models.
Why don't you bring it to my tractor show in Woodstock on the 19th of July. There are lots of knowledgeable people there.
Email me if you're interested. Hope to see lots of my NH friends there (and from other states, too).
