I am going to look at 2 tractors tomorrow morning. One is a Farmall H with loader that belonged to the owners dad. It has new tires around and says it starts and runs great. Has manure and snow buckes. Missing small piece to grill and battery box lid. Is asking $1200 for it. The second tractor is a Ferguson TO20 W/Superior loader and manure bucket. Owner says he gave engine a complete OH with many new parts. Runs great. Rear tires are fair and fronts are weather cracked. Rear rims very rusty. Tractor is complete. He is asking $2200 for it. Going to use the tractor for cleaning horse barn and clearing snow in the winter. Northern Illinois area. Which do you think would be the best deal? Ken

Just what did he mean by:"complete OH with many new parts" ? Find out just what he did and what was replaced. I've seen rebuilt engines with the old rings and bearings put back in them, along with other parts that they figured still looked good enough. Most times they'll run good for 25-50 hours then grenade. Just long enough for you to figure "oh well its an older tractor, and these things do happen" !!

I vote for the H. With the money you save you could get a brand new Saginaw hitch and maybe even live distributor hydraulics like my M has. And maybe you don't even need those things anyway.
I don't know about Fergusons but that H sounds great for the money.

If the TO20 is anything Like the TO30 my dad had it will be a very tough act to follow we had no problem with it for 15 years the hydraulic would lift anything we asked of it. The TO30 had a little HP than straight H where the TO20 would be a little less. We had no problem with 3-14 plow.

If you can get under your horse barns with the h i would go for the h. Add 3pt to it if needed as far as live pump it would be nice but not a have to thing. If all you do is clean the barns and maybe bushog alittle the to would do fine. Are you planing on using a manure spearder behind it? The h might work better in snow. And has better tires if motor is alright i would go for h. Just my thoughts.

If the H dozen't have a live pump on it, or a two point hitch on it the ferguson may be the better deal even thought the H has a very good price on it. I think the ferguson has a two point hitch with a top link for that model an you sometimes need a hitch like that for newer equipment. The older pull behing like the H's are getting hader to find now days. Even though I'm red to the bone ferguson is a nice tractor, if I were to buy an different tractor that IH it would be a ferguson. Now if it were me Id buy both an have all kinds of fun, but most peoples pocket book forbids that for sure :o)

Is the fergie live pump? Our to30 did not have live hydraulics. Oil pressure is a weak point on the fergie's. Rusty rims, how rusty? Holey? only you can answer that.

Which pump is on the H, the belly pump or a distributor pump or a front pump for the loader?

Sounds about rght on price, the Ferg has a few more features, costs more.

Paul - I didn't ask about the pump on the H but I assume it is the belly pump because he probably would have mentioned a live pump if it had one.

Well Matt bought the Farmall H and is going to pick it up Friday. Engine in the H sounds good and seems to run good. The engine in the Ferguson seems really noisy. The owner says it the tappets but sounded louder than tappets. Hope it's the right decision. Only time will tell. Thanks for all your input. Ken
