This tractor was recently pulled from the weeds and started after 8-10 years of sitting up. We re-set the timing, replaced the plugs, wires, etc. However, the carburetors is giving me trouble. The gas leaks out of the carbureator so I had to install a shut off valve to keep it from doing so. Also, I installed a reuild kit but it didn't stop the leaking. Any suggestion on how I can alleviate this problem?

Thanks,

Aloha, how does the engine run with the carb leaking? Where is it leaking from? Some carbs have a drain hole for excess gas so if it is leaking from there on a level surface it may be:
If you are using the original float and it is brass, take it out and shake it to see if it has gas in it. If it is made out of that black plastic material it may be saturated with gas. If yes to any of the two, even though the float is adjusted correctly it will not completely close the needle valve. Check that the seat is ok, no nicks or foreign stuff on it and also check the needle valve. Hope this helps.

Mahalo,
Howard

There should have already been a fuel shut off valve on that tractor. It's located just under the tank and is accessed from the right side of the tractor.

Did you clean out the carb real good before installing the kit? I'd take it apart and soak all the hard parts overnight in a good quality carb cleaner then blow out all the passages with compressed air. Then maybe run some thin tag wire through all the orifices.

The carb was soaked overnight in a cleaning solution from the local parts store. There was no fuel shut off valve on the tractor. the line from the gas tank to the carb was a metal line which we replaced with a rubber line and shut off valve until the problem can be resolved.

Do you suggest I take it off and try it again?

Thanks for your comment....
