I have a ford 531 deisel 3 cyl. I just changed engines, now the hydralic pump won't work. Does it need primed? How would I do that? This pump drives off the flywheel.. thanks for any help

Don't know anything about your tractor but it is common to pressurize the sump/reservoir to prime pumps when the hyd system has been drained or standing idle for a long time. No more then 2-5 psi generally through the vent/breather and then engage the pump.

That makes sense. Would it hurt the system to prime the pump with vasoline? My neighbor just rebuilt his (Kubota)and that is what he did to prime it. I'm just curious about it. Thanks-
