Try putting a cup of blood fertlizer down his
hole and also his one or two exits,it worked for
me and I got rid of three of them.My neighbor
has them now,I read about this in our local paper.

Here we had a groundhog that burrowed under a building. No place to hide for shooting and not safe to shoot at that place. So I captured my urine in a gallon jug and poured it into the hole. The hole is now vacant. I think they relocated themselves.

Just a few days ago somebody was telling me about a system where they injected oxygen and propane with a hose which had some sort of igniter at the end. They said it was impressive to watch it work. They said if not quite enough was injected before ignition, a dazed, scorched, and bleeding from ears & eyes gopher would emerge and die.

Furotoxin (spelling?) it is grain fumigant in a pellet form. You will need certification to buy it. One thing I tried on a small town was rat poisen. I bought pelleted stuff and just throwed it in the holes. That was a year ago and now there are no dogs. Count on reinfestation. If you leave 1 dog he will repopulate in 3 years.

OK Boys, First praire dogs are not pets! They are nuisances, A detrament to land, ruin it for grazing. There mounds can and will cripple a horse if you have to rope sick cattle in that pasture. I know!!! First it is great fun to wile-away a sunday afternoon shooting dogs. After a while they wise up. Even from 300 yds you will miss some so the 1 bullit-1 dead dog won't be the rule. I have seen praire dog towns that gange into the hundreds of acres! So real aggresive measures must be taken to control/eradicate them. Best time to do ground work is after a rain!
NH3 (Anhydrous Ammonia) get a trailer that has some in it, Off of the liquid line hose attach a length of pile, stick it down the hole, with a shovel handle, shove some news paper into the hole, cover hole with soil, pack down, crack valve for 30 seconds or so, close valve, pull out pipe, throw extra soil on top of hole and pack down. Go to next hole. After a couple of days you will start seeing results. Go back and retreat any holes that are dug out. Some folks use Drip Gas (condensate collected from natural gas pipe line blow pots) Those of you that have gas lines on your property know what I am talking about. Use the same prosudure as above only subing the drip gas for NH3. There are others who have used pellitized grain fumigant. Use 8 to 10 tablets Same procedure as above.
Still others will flood them out with water, then club them to death. The folk I know have NO love for dogs! The last hope one can have for control/eradication is the plauge that hits the praire towns every so often, it can reduce a town by half. If that happens, Then is the time to get after them even harder. For they are weaker and should be easier to kill.
Good Hunting,
John A.

Don't know about prarie dogs but around here ground hogs are our pest. I like a Colt HBAR 5.56mm, used to use a .270, nothing left with it.

There is actually a guy in Texas who uses a giant vacume pickup, with a funnel to set over the hole. The inside of the chamber is lined with foam and he has had a video camera showing the critters comming in. He sells these "pests" overseas for pets. The whole comtraption is mounted on a tractor, powered by the pto. The pickup cone is mounted where the loader bucket would be.

I do my part to trim the local pasture poodle population with a .222, but I also read somewhere of a fellow that makes a living vacuuming them up--he's got a big vacuum unit with a large tank on his truck, and he sticks a hose down the hole, sucks them into the tank, then relocates them. Not sure WHERE he relocates them--I don't know why anyone would voluntarily ask for more prarie dogs, but I'm sure there's some people that would.

I fire up one of my trusty old Maytags and stick the exhaust hose down the hole for 10-15 minutes, then shovel it full of dirt.

This how my grand father used to get get rid of woodchuck around here. He would drive the truck to the fields, attach a piece of plastic hose to the exhaust of the truck stick it down the hole and fill the hole around the hose. Then he would start the truck and check for a second exit hole and fill it if necessary. He would listen to the radio for 15 minutes or so then pull ou the hose and finish filling the hole.

You should always have a .22 with you incase they find the exit hole before you do.

Hey use your old gas tractor to do it. It will do them good to get run!!

Now that you mention it, I did hear that they're trying to make pets out of them, though I don't personally know anyone that's tried it. One thing I CAN confirm personally is that Woodchuck makes excellent eating! I've never had prarie dog, however--they're kind of rare in Northern NY.

I hear that the civit cat is partly to blame for the SARS out break. People eat the civit cat in china and abroad. dont know what you would get if you ate woodchucks, or praire dogs.

I've shot a bunch ot them but never ate one...don't even go look at 'em after they were shot...that red haze in the scope on my old Model 99 (250/3000) is confirmation enough....plus the fact that the main control on dog town over-population as provided by nature is bubonic plague.

I heard about the civit cat as well--however, I don't think woodchuck would cause a problem. Take the hind saddles, make sure to get the scent glands out, and barbeque--it's excellent! However, I wouldn't recommend it after using the technique some farmers around here use--backing up the liquid manure spreader, filling the holes, and then popping any survivors with a .22. It would bring a whole new meaning to "this tastes like shutt!"

Couple years back I stopped in a rest stop east of Rawlins, Wy and them stupid people were having 1 to 2yr olds hand feed them.

One guy got one in his lap to feed and it came uncorked on him. Says "geez I shouldn't have done that"

I know a few other people like me who'd like to go doggin'.

All the dogs are too far away from me to get to without a long trip, but I'd love to get on some someday.

I thought I had a real gun with that STW...till a bud got a .338/.375 ..... .Whooooo Wheeeee!!!

Prbblem is, they're both a bit much for our Texas Whitetails. Neck shot a doe from 150 with the STW last year..... basically a decapitation.

I Love it! :) Nothing satisfies like a center-fire and a 12x scope! And how does this topic relate to tractors? Easy: A varmint-free pasture is a smooth pasture to drive an antique tractor across! :) Happy hunting!

A accurate .22 cal. center fire rifle with a scope, so you can do head shots. One shot, one kill, as someone said, and you are building marksmanship skills, an American thing to do.
