Calling once again on the wealth of knowledge here . We found new place to locate our hunting / get away cabin . Old farmyard, has old hand pump on well. it has been converted to an electric motor pump drive. Any ideas on how to get water supply to cabin ? Maybe pump into holding tank , then use shallow well pump ? Well casing is only 3 in and i believe onwer said it was 300 ft .

I hand pump the water for my cabin into a 45 gallon garbage pail then have an RV pump on shed wall powered by an old car battery. Is powerful enough to shower off all of the poison ivy I have on me after I cut the field. The trick is getting all of the soap off before my 4 gallons of hot water run out. I have it down to a science, but its funny when I have visitors who dont. No joke, this system powers everything in my cabin pretty well.

The first thing I would do is find out the static water level in the well. Then go from there to determine if I needed a shallow well water pump or one for deep well, such as a jet pump.

If you static level is 30 ft or less you could use shallow well pump. Fix the old hand pump don't require anything but man power to operate. and better for ya than the Barley Pop..:>)

i have a similiar situation with a cabin in the woods for the kids. no electricty or well. i used a black poly water tank from the farm store, 250 gallon, then bought a 12 volt marine washdown pump, 45-50 psi, 3 gallon per minute, shuts off at 50 psi. deep cycle marine battery on a solar panel to keep it charged. also bought a 10 gallon pressure tank from menards. works pretty good, i haul the water in a tank in the pickup and transfer to the bigger water tank, toss a swimming pool floating chlorinator in the big tank to keep the critters out of the water. i use bottled water for drinking.

A little further west, i.e. S.E. NE, the first thing I would do in a well that deep is check to make sure it does not contain salt-water. Perhaps it would be smart to look at other water quality issues too before investing in a pump.
