What modern hyrdraulic oil is suitable for a B250 tractor. In the handbook it says SAE20 but my agricultural store says this is no longer made. Any suggestions please? The oil is for the hyrdraulics not the transmission.

You can use 30 weight NON DETERGANT Oil in the hydraulic systems in the Farmall letter series tractors, not sure if this applies to others or not.

DO NOT USE DETERGANT OIL, IT WILL FOAM.

The 30 W oil might be a bit too thick to work well in colder weather.

I was told you could use 30wt motor oil is this true? I put hytran in my 52 superA and it works just fine.

By B-250, Do you have a British made International B-250?
Almost every International Harvester tractor uses Hy-Tran. I'm not positive about the British built tractors, but the U.S. built tractors use it.
You can get it from a Case/IH dealer, they would also be able to tell you if it is right for your tractor too.

Hytran is 20W I believe. You can also find other oils that meet Hytran specs for a lot less than Hytran. Not sure about your tractor, but almost all Internationals I have seen will use Hytran ( or equiv) in hydraulics/transmission.

I like Hytran! I don't use the "other" stuff because Hytran will suppend more moisture in it and the "cheaper" oils. (condensation) This means when i drain it the water comes out. The water also isn't sitting in the low area's rusting the metal. I do think Hytran is worth the extra it cost, and really it isn't that much more considering how long the change intervilles are for trans/hydraulic changes. My tractors get Hytran! Robert

Robert, do you mean that if the cheaper oil meets IH BD 6 specs it is still does not have the additives to absorb as much water ?

Bought some HyTran yesterday for $8.99/gallon at Case International dealer.

Not too bad to get what is recommended.

Hytran or it's equivlant will work fine. Detergant oils will foam.
