An old friend was discussing the Lanz 2-cycle diesel the other night, and we both got curious about how the main and rod bearings and piston were lubricated on those engines.

Can anybody tell me just how did they do it?

I am not a Lanz owner but I've been told they are
a dry sump engine. These engines will run backwards too, therefore they have a direction
indicator on them so you don't burn out the engine from lack of oil pressure.

You need to run the engine of a Lanz Bulldog backwards in order to drive backwards, so the engine wouldn´t be damaged this way.

You only run the engine backwards on the first two model Bulldogs to drive backwards. If you run the engine backwads on any other models, the oil in the crankcase does not get pumped back into the oil tank and it will eventually run out of oil or it might run on the oil in the crankcase and you can't stop it. To ran the engine backwards for a short time (to blow dust out of the radiators) does not hurt.
