i have a 465 nuffield that i been having problems with for a few months now. First we were in the middle of cutting hay and the fan belt went on it. Well we got that fixed. Then we were cutting hay again and just a few days after the belt went, the generator went. Well this is when the real problems started. We went to the local mechanic and he gave us one that he thought was rebuilt. so we went and put it on and it sort of worked for a while. it wont recharge the battery after we start it or have the lights on. so everytime we want to use it we have to boost it. so now we think the battery is dead but thats no problem. We just got a snowblower for it and when we started using it, it will stall. so we thought it was the fuel filters. so we changed them but its still stalling. we think the problem might be with the voltage regulator. we put a used one on it already and its still stalling. so we went a bought a new one and havent got it on yet.if anyone has any ideas why its stalling when we use PLEASE let me know. oh yeah it will sometimes sit and idle but not always. if u can help please let me know thanx

Hi there!
I had a similar problem with my nuffield 4/65 ,but i solved it with an electric primary pump for the diesel oil.
the problem is caused by an underdimensioned primary pump, so when the engine was running under heavy load , the pump for the injectors was eating more diesel, than the primary pump had the capacity to pump out.
for further explanations you are welcome to call me at: Home 0046-563.14929 or 004670.3194929 in Sweden

With my regards

Agree that it is likely fuel problems. But as to your electrical problems, recommend you take your original generator and regulator to a local rebuilder and have him completely rebuild and test them. Get a new battery, as much as you have been jumping it and deep draining it, I would not bet 2 cents on it now.

your 465 dose NOT need any electrical power to run the stalling is due to a fuel problem NOT electrical check your fuel flow. at the fuel tank in front ther is a shut off valve they like to get crud in them it's the main fuel line blow it out also they do not like thick fuel in cold temps. are you using blened fuel?. i am 100 percent sure it NOT electrical because your injector pump is not electric it has a manual shut off. check your fuel flow

I looked at one on agdealer.com, but couldn't see the engine, however that sounds like the generator is bad. The first problem sounds like a bearing was bad in something run by the belt. I would get one that was rebuilt with a guarantee.

Iv'e had a number of these tractorsand have to say how good they really are. Stalling- like one gentleman said, mechanical inj. pump, so it can't be electrical-have had a lot of problems with afforementioned "crud" in fuel shutoff. Electrical problem- although they have a bad rap[by people that don't understand them] the Lucas electrics I've had have been good-find an electrical rebuild shop that "likes" Lucas before having the work done!

Hi There!

I have also had exactly the same problem with my 4/65 Nuffield , and as i have told other people with the same problem i could tell you this:
The primary pump is underdimensioned so you should replace it wit a electric primarypump which gives more litres per minute.
then you will be out of problems.
if you like, you are welcome to call me at:

best regards Mike.
