I have a 1940's Minneappolis Moline that isn't running and inherited it through divorce. I've got buyers coming out of the woodwork and I don't know what to ask for it. Retro has boomed in the last half year so everyone is wanting anything that is dated especially from the 40's. Someone give me a starting figure! It looks good, some surface discoloration perhaps rust but no holes or pits. It has a PTO.

It depends on the model. MM made several different models during 1942. Give the letters and numbers off of the tag and I'll let you know.

Where might the tag be located? We found four numbers molded on the motor: 1) RE152B 2) RE226C 3) RE101A 4) EE757 and one number on the transmission next to the shifter: RT364A. Then one number just above the front axle: JT1327D.

Thanks!

Well, you can't always use casting numbers, but my book shows a RTU model, built fron 39-54. There are other R series models but their production years end before 42, or begin after 42. If it is a RTU its top value in perfect condition is $2,425, according to Dean and Swenson's Antique American Tractor and Crawler Value Guide. At the lower value--on the verge of being a parts tractor, but running--its worth $300. Got a picture?

I don't know where the tag is on a MM. Chances are if it's not obvious it's missing. I had that problem with my Oliver Super 55. The mold #'s can sometimes help. I'll check and get back to you soon.
