Depends on how much corn you have to pick. If you've got a half acre to harvest in a season, it's not. If you've got a half acre to harvest a day and you farm workers don't show (been there, done that) so you lose quality on a 1/2 acre (4800 or 400 dozen @ $3 a dozen) it doesn't have to happen many times before it's cheap.

A Sweet Corn Picker That Works And Is In Good Shape Is Worth A Pretty Penny. They Are Very Very Rare. We Had One Along Time Ago On The Dairy, It Was For Our Allis WD-45 Diesel. Rare Tractor Too. Dad Traded The WD-45 Diesel On a SP Woods Mower. Gave Away The Picker. I Could Have Shot Him That Day.. I Sold Sweet Corn As A Kid On The Farm, And I Still Can Hear Those Two Machines In The Field...

I'm usually the guy saying 'thats way too much!' to anything, but I bet the reserve price is closer to $10,000. Those FMC sweet corn pickers go high, very high. I'm not saying that is what it is _worth_, but it's in the ballpark for an asking price.

Regular pickers beat up sweet corn, these FMC units are special built to not harm the ears at all. Folks with over 10 acres of sweet corn can make many many $1000s of dollars a year, if they can harvest the stuff on time without getting Carpal Tunnel. And there aren't many of these units around, so the price goes up, specialty item...

????The vice-grips on the control panel. Is that one of the controls or is it there to be handy for frequent repairs? I would have to have better pictures to be interested at all. Ed

Sounds too much ($5000).looks like home made.If you can find a IH 234 2 row mounted picker, they mounted on everything from Farmall M's (pretty light tractor for this) to IH 1466's. Late model 234's with live points on the snapping rolls would be best. Husking beds had pipes that layed parallel with the husking rolls when installed. This allowed husks to stay on.

I-H made a #24, 2-row mounted that fit H's & M'S. Might be hard to come by, but they are around. Many were used throughout the midwest to harvest canning factory corn. Just a thought...

I am no longer in the sweet corn business but when I was we hand pulled most of our corn as it was all for the fresh market. I had a home made picker that I used to pull corn for the local market and it worked very well. Florida is the #1 state in the USA for fresh market sweet corn production.
