What happened to Surpplus Tractor Parts in Fargo N.D. I got out their catalog and called. and found they went out of business three years ago. Did any body take their place?

They were bought out by Cat, who changed the name to All Parts International, and then closed the Fargo store down, and moved operations to Peoria. Eventually they seemed to give up on the old tractor parts idea, and if you get into the API website now, it jumps you to your nearest Cat dealer. In addition to wanting to sell parts for other brands, Cat also wiped out one of the big sellers of aftermarket undercarraige parts for Cat equipment, and by doing so, forced the public to buy genuine Cat parts. Plus it wiped out the only track press in our area, although the shop had been slowing down for years.

I can't believe it--I live in the Fargo area and just noticed last week that Surplus Tractor Parts (aka All Parts International) was closed. I bought a number of tractor books and WD45 tractor parts over the years there. It was a great outlet and handy for us North Dakotans. Harbor Freight opened shop in a building that was occupied some time ago by Goodwill. It's on the same frontage road as STP corp. was but isn't in the same building.

It is my understanding they were bought out by the re-man division of Caterpillar tractor so Cat dealers would have a source of parts for tractors of other makes. I drive by the building from time to time, and all or part of it is for sale or lease, so I'm not sure what the end result of the sale was... closure, or did what remained move?

My brother just came to AZ from Fargo and said that Harbor Freight just opened a tool store in part of the old Surplus Tractor building.

Don't think they bothered getting a 800# or net
site. Seems Worthington was buying up salvage
yards, a few years back, perhaps this is another
yard under that banner. Another example of big
not being better, when you watch them drop a
tractor 8' with a large forklift. Someone has to
pay for added broken parts, the customer.
