Myself and two neighbors bought JD 5210's when they first came out. No telling how many accummulated hours on the three of them. Absolutely no problems. I owned MF for years but this is by far the best tractor I have ever owned. Works hard and with great fuel economy.

Alan,
Sounds like you may have just got ahold of the last tractor to come off the line that day or something similar. Deere builds good products but every company has its lemons. Do not base the whole company on one model. I personally don't intend on driving much else than Deeres. Get ya a good used 30 or 40 series or 50series. They are getting some age but are proven performers.
New technology in my opinion should be left on the space shuttle. when a farmer needs a satellite to tell him how to plow or harvest in my opinion he doesn't have any business being there.

Ever equipment manufacture has dealers with various levels of customer service satisfaction. Even a good dealer can have an off days when something goes wrong or money is lost. Who ever sold Deere top brass on the 5000 series being better than the 20,30,40,50 & 55 series Mannheim Germany built utility tractors should be horse whipped.

JD builds some good equipment, The 5000 series
are not it. The JD 6000 series are good if you can afford it. As far as the NH tractors go the
TN series are NH's equal to the JD 5000. NH is
building junk also. If you're looking at a new
tractor. I would look at the McCormick CX series
(same tractor as Case IH CX series) The new CASE
IH tractors are NH (Fiat design). And the MF 4300
series tractors, JD 6000 series, and the Valtra tractor line. All 4 of these seem to be good quality.

I disagree that the JD 5000 series are problem tractors. I own a 2000 5510 and I love this tractor. It has all the power I need, drives nice, and is easy to maintain. I have had zero problems other than a tight fitting fuel cap - when I told my dealer about it, he mailed me a new 2001 cap (no charge) that even solved that minor problem. The 5410 and 5510 tractors have the same engine as the 6000 series, so I don't see how they can be that much different. My experience with JD 5000 tractors has been excellent - I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

Why do you say NH is building junk? I have a TN65S w/NH loader and my dad has a TS110 w/NH loader and they seem to be fine tractors to us. You won't hurt my feelings....just wanting to get your 2 cents worth. :-)

My more than 2 cents worth. The TS110 is a good
tractor it is built in Basildon England plant
thats where the (i'm going to use the 4000 Ford
and 5610 Ford for example) thats where the 4000,4610,4630, and 5610 5610II were built at.
The TS series are the "Ford Tractor" design They
have stopped building those. Now CaseIH tractors
have started production there. AS far as your
TN the local dealer is selling about 10 a year
he was selling 50-60 30 series tractors a year
till production stopped in June 1999. A good
buddy has a TN75 and he loves it. But if you look
at the specs of the TN it is a close copy of the
JD 5000 series, it has a dry clutch pto like the JD. The TN may be a good tractor but it is NOT
better than what it replaced the tried and proven
"FORD tractor". except for hyd pump capacity. I hope you have good service out of your TN65, there
is nothing worse than spending big money on something and it has problems like the guy with the John Deere 5210 cab

Thank you for your 2 cents worth, Dave! :-) I appreciate the info!

I really like my TN65S, but I must admit, it will probably never see any strenuous work....bushhogging being the primary task. I am a "city farmer"..... ..grew up on a farm, but chose engineering as a profession. I had an old Massey 65, but I wanted a tractor with a loader for lifting things and moving just a little dirt. I got to looking at tractors with loaders.....specifically 4x4's.....trying to find something a bit older in decent shape. I found out they were hard to find.....most of the older ones were beat to a pulp or the price seemed mighty high for a tractor 10 or 12 years old. I probably would not have purchased the tractor I did..... .with Supersteer and several other bells and whistles, but my hometown dealer had a 2000 model with only 80 hours on it and he cut me a fairly good deal on it. The previous owner bought it one year and traded it in the next on a tractor just like it, but with a cab..... .he said he was tired of being out in the cold!

Oh well..... ..that's my story. Thanks again for the info!

A friend of mine who is a mechanic for JD says
they have very little trouble with the 5000 series. They have a bunch leased to the state,
and if they can't tear them up nobody can.

Wasn't too long ago a poster was saying the state he lives in was unloading all their 5000 series deeres because of the huge amount of problems they are haveing with them. They had more repair $$ into the 5000's than they did any other deere's they had ever owned, and were switching brands!! I read about so many unhappy JD owners these days that i thank my lucky stars all the time. I "almost" bought one last time i bought new, but i just felt they were too lightly built and over priced!! I'm so glad i listened to my gut feeling!! Robert
