I need to change the hydraulic fluid in my TO 30. Is there anything I need to do do to flush it out? I think there's water in it, so should I let it run to warm up--it's in the low teens here--before draining it? I keep it in an unheated garage.

I am not a fan of the drive it around with a belly full of diesel theory. Drain the gear oil, put in 5 gallons of diesel, jack up one rear wheel and let her spin. Shift through to make sure all gears are engaged, even reverse. You will be able to hear a difference when the gears are stripped of the old lube. You can hear the gear teeth clattering together when the cushioning effect of the old oil is gone.

I can't remember how much oil yours holds, but my last held eight. I had to buy 2 five gallon buckets, so I measured out 2 gallons and poured that in. I ran her a minute with the two gallons of clean lube to gather up the diesel. Then drained that and poured in the 8 gallons. This removes the traces of diesel and gets rid of those two extra gallons that I was going to overfill the case with anyway!

I am sure there is a better way, but this is how I do it...

I've never messed with a Ferguson but I believe they are pretty similar to the Ford N series tractors.
Best way to do it is pull the PTO shaft out and drop the hyd pump. Get the manual to see how the lift linkage connects to the pump!!
Then you can get your hands inside and clean out the 40+ years of sludge and crud that accumulates in the bottom.
I used a garden sprayer with diesel fuel and sprayed around inside and let it drain into a pan. Some folks put a few gals of diesel into the case and drive it around for a while. Then drain.
Fill with fresh oil and you're good for a long time.
As for the water, the most likely entry point into the tractor is from the rubber boot where the shift lever enters the tranny. Replace that while you are at it.
Good luck
