i am considering buying a forklift. it says silent hoist co. brooklyn ny on it in a few places. the seller says somone told him it is a 10000 lb lift, and this apears to be about right judging by the forks. it is a 4 wheeled forklift, the front tires are duals and are 20 inch truck type tires. the backs are 15 inch but are spaced next to eachother like a narrow front tractor. it has a 4 cylinder motor with the distributor coming up thru the center of the block, could this be a continental motor? also does anyone have any idea of the weight of this machine? it has a 12 ft mast on it so it has to go on my trailer if i bring it home,my flatbed truck is 4 ft high so i would be overheight on the road. any help would be appreciated

I am not familiar with the brand you have, but you can generally expect the machine to weigh between 50% more to double what the machine lifting capacity is. If you load the machine on a trailer, back it on. Weighted end first then tilt your mast all the way out to lower your overall hight.

Hi, Mark, this has got to be a major coincidence.....was having my van serviced at the local service shop next to the local auction mart....looked out the window and there was a forklift.....finished the service and drove around to have a look at this unit! Well it was the same as you discribe.....with one little differece, this one has a flathead six cylender, that I believe to be a chrysler, probably a T112. Does yours have the chain drive? This took place a couple of hours ago.... then I read your post...have a gooder,R.E.L. PS, I am from Alberta Canada.....

yea this one has a chain drive, it is in ansonia connecticut, i have decided not to get it now, not that i dont want it or it is a bad machine but cause my father was not at all happy with the idea of me bringing home another giant thing to add to the collection lol. the guy was only asking 300 for it and said he would take less but i think i will just find an old tractor and the mast from a smaller forklift and make my own lift. this one is much bigger than what i need actualy.

Hi, again, Mark, if you would like to see a forklift I made from a W4 and an old mast, go to Bill Klumpers web site at wwwibdozing.com and look under archives. Took a little doing, but I changed the crown gear to the other side of pinion shaft and that reversed the trany so all the forward gears as a tractor are now the "forward" gears for the forklift, steering is by Saginaw, or chev, to get the pitman arm to travel the right way. if you like, you can e-mail me. Have a gooder, R.E.L.
