Hello!

I have problem with 1080 and 4WD (year 1972). I have Multipower version and 4WD clutch is controlled with
the same oil used for multipower.

Now the problem is that I cannot use front wheel drive if I switch Multipower to HIGH (engine breaking).
If I switch Multipower to LOW 4WD is working but if I go downhill, the engine is not breaking.
Does someone know is this is normal circumstances.

My opinion is that oil pump doesn't have enough power to supply oil for both clutch.

Please help!

Thanks in advance
Dusan

Hhmmm....you must either have a French built tractor,or an aftermarket front axle(Selene possibly)We never had a mfd 1080 available new in N.A. except maybe in Quebec (I've seen mfd 265 and 275 there)Check the AgDealer for Massey dealers in Quebec, and contact some of them, they might just have an answer for you.

Yes, it is French version. It looks like front axle is Factory mounted with 28" tyre.
It's very powerfull and I use it in forest with 6 ton winch.

Thanks

The multipower system will coast when going downhill this is the way all MF's are. They must be in the high side to have engine breaking. If the 4wd is plumbed into the low side it would not work when in the high side. I have never worked on 1080 with 4wd so I can't tell you how it is supposed to work, I just know how the multipower works.
