What model tractor? Does it have "Live PTO" (2-stage clutch) or "Independent PTO"? We need a little more info to diagnose the problem.

if it's live PTO then your clutch pack is gone or your pump is weak . if it's a two stage clutch then you clutch is going or is out of adj.

How do you determine if it is a "2 stage clutch?"
Noleaks in the hoses...hydraulic fluid is at proper level...the PTO is turning
With the PTO turning - does it help to diagnose better?
Thanks for helping Any help is appreciated.
Mary

Two stage clutch means you push the pedal half way down to stop the ground travel and all the way down to stop the pto (Live PTO). If you can engage the pto without using the clutch pedal, that is "Independent PTO". Marlowe is confusing the terms.

Going to venture a guess here he may have a ground speed option on his PTO, many Masseys did. The PTO selector had three positions, engine drive, off, and ground drive. Suggest he should check and see if that's the case, and he has PTO selector in the wrong position.... Sorry, been a while since I've been on a MF, and can't remember which position is which! Stand to inherit a MF in the near future, and I get to find out then!
