Get er done and hope life gets better. Just put me me out far enough so I don't feel or hear what they are doing. What a sissy huh? Then bring on the food I have been missing out on for awhile!!

Dry socket is preventable. Pain in preventable. Ask and ask again.

I had FIVE of them CUT OUT when I was 19.

They said that they didn't want to break loose.

Roots all the way down to the lower jaw. Man, thank GOD for anesthesia.

Hope they came out OK. Back in 1955 I was stationed in Germany and flew out of Frankfort. I had been on a 4 day trip and returned to base with a swollen jaw. Since the base dental office was closed they sent me to a German dentist. I sat in the chair in immense pain and before I knew it I was strapped down and he was putting a device in my mouth to hold it open . He then proceeded to chisel out two wisdom teeth with a hammer and chisel. I believe I passed out at least once. When he was done and he released me it was all I could do to keep from killing him. I was off flight status for two weeks and many appointments at the detal clinic to get repaired. I hope you had a better day.

Well now that a good number of people have posted I will also. Way back when I had mine pulled, I was in the navy then I had big problems. Got some sort ot infection and my face blow up like a ballon. I was sick in bed for a week plus because of it.

I hope everything went well. I had two taken out at the same time while I was in the Navy. I did experience some pain. If you experience some pain, and the dentist starts talking about a dry socket that isn't good. Stan

Interesting to see all the responses- I didn't count, but the "don't sweat it" contingent seems to be a little larger than the "worst pain in the history of mankind" group. I hope Migraine takes solace in that. I will never get to experience it- I was born without any wisdom teeth (also congenitally missing two upper bicuspids, for you dental types out there). If you're going to have a "birth defect", missing wisdom teeth is a darn good one, IMHO.

Had my lowers out 30 plus years ago, they had to be quartered. Three days later I tried to eat a piece of fried round steak, and my jaws locked up. I did eat it though. A few years later took my uppers out they were piece of cake. Have had 3 others out since no big deal.

An ice pack(s) held immediately after extraction, over the cheek for several hours is mandatory for comfort & recovery. I had four wisdoms removed under a general. The one that bothered was the only area not covered with an ice pack while I was in recovery. Don’t try to be a hero & push things for a while either. As for those of you who don't brush at least twice a day, floss before bed and have the tarter scraped off twice a year. Your are in for some major expense and suffering in the future.

I had mine out in 2 appts (1 for upper, 1 for lower) about 15 years ago.
By far, the most God-Awful, painful, scary, terrifying part was listening to folks tell me how bad it was gonna be - BOTH TIMES!

The bottom ones came out in pieces, and I had 4 stitches on both sides.

I went back to work both times after my appt, and aside from a little swelling, I never hurt a bit. I heard the noise of them being pulled, but felt nothing! - Sure "sounded" like it "ought" to hurt. Thank goodness for Novocaine!

I had one wisdom tooth removed in the dentist chair with only the aide of novacaine. The dentist had to break the tooth to get it out;
and once the novacaine wore off, not even the strongest painkiller had a chance (darvoset, percoset). Worst pain of my life, nothing else even close. Actually brought tears to my eyes. When it kept hurting for days, they said I had a "dry socket", which took 2-3 weeks to feel better. I was supposed to go back to have one more taken out....forget it. Not during my lifetime. Heck, I don't even want to go to the dentist for a cleaning!
Good luck!

I didn't have my wisdom teeth pulled as soon as I should have. Ended up with a tonsilar abcess. Believe me, having the teeth pulled was a treat compared to having the emergency room doctor go with a scalpel into the back of my mouth to drain the abcess.

Got rid of mine 18 years ago. Haven't had a minutes trouble out of them since. The Doc doped me real good. Didn't feel nothing. Was back to normal in 3 or 4 days. Went back 5 years ago and had rest of them taken out as well, no more tooth aches for me. They had to break several of mine, I could here the crunching, but couldn't move or feel anything. I can eat anything I could before except for peanuts and the like. Even apples. Mine had gotten so bad I couldn't eat country ham and now I can.

Make sure to keep ice on your face for a couple hours...seemed to help with the swelling when I had mine out several years ago.

(ok...I actually used frozen blueberries, since that's what Mom had in the car...she went grocery shopping while I was at the dentist).

Don't know migraine.. if not wanting to be in a dentist chair means being a sissy, call me "sissy". Years back I told VA Dentist I would rather be back in SE Asia than sitting in his chair..end of story!!

By the way, we found a WFE for Shawn's SC. Need to do some clean up on some old welds, but all is good...

Sorry, NO tough guy here! Had mine out 21 years ago. They sent me off for most of the morning. Doc had to crush the 2 uppers to get them out. I looked like a raccoon for 2 weeks with the blackeyes. 3rd worst ones he had done. Follow the Doc's orders as far as eating and drinking. Dry sockets s**k. Good Luck Pal.

The thought is worse than the ordeal.

Other than hearing a grinding, popping sound going on, you will never feel a thing.

They fill the cavity up with cotton, give ya some high powered pain pills and they will not bother you in the least.

I'm the biggest sissy there is and I have yet to feel the first twitch from having them out. In fact, I always said I should have had it done earlier.

Good Luck. They probably told you about a possible complication, loosing the scab/clot on the gum too soon, condition known as a "dry socket". Don"t use a straw, gargle, or spit too hard, all loose up the wound. Had one out of the four and it hurt like the dickens. Wouldn"t wish that on anyone. Heal fast!! billylee
