I have a 1951 John Deere B. Serial number is not readable on ID tag. Is it stamped or cast anywhere else on the Tractor?

You can sand the back of the tag too to possibly find something.

Yes, a camera and a flashlight. Shine the flashlight on the tag at different extreme angles and take the picture with no flash. You can then blow up the picture. Sometimes lightly sanding the tag with very fine emery cloth or 2000 grit sandpaper will help. Just a few strokes at a time to polish the tag is all you need to do. Coarse sandpaper might make slight scratches you might mistake as a partial number. Sometimes the back of the tag will have a slight raise where the number characters are stamped. Let us know how you come out.

Get several good photos of it with light from different directions, including with the light at a low angle. Sometimes you can enlarge the photo and see better.
