Hello All,

I recently bought a Dynamark yard tractor for my kids to play with - it has (had) a 36 inch twin cut blade setup - now removed - and an 8 hp B&S motor. Of course it has a new paint job and is ready to go. What I was wondering about was the age of this unit - All I have to go on is the numbers off of the chassis and engine. Can anyone tell me the code to these in regard to the age of the tractor (and anything else that would be interesting). Thanks from all of us.

Dynamark 8-36" Twin Blade Cut

Chassis info: AMF Model 52850200 YC2
Chassis Serial: 4-92388

Engine B&S 4 stroke, 8 HP

According to the number you indicated for the engine, that is a 1972 B&S so the mower was probably built on or soon after that date. I had one of those petty blue mowers for nearly 26 years. Used it for mowing in a 4 acre Christmas tree farm. I acquired a Dynamark 1136 and still use it. The 8 HP went to the scrap yard a couple of years ago.

Cant help either but was wondering something. What was the original color?Apparently, former Nascar driver Richard Petty promoted a "Petty Blue" Dynamark which ,as I am told, are very valuable to certain Nascar collectors.Wish I had known that about five years ago.I sent one to the scrape heap!

You mean they came in some other color besides blue?

Yep!We had a red one that Dad used for years after the blue one gave up.That was in the early 80s.It had a red hood and the fenders and foot rest were black. The guy he sold the frame to still uses it,but he has put a new engine on it a time or two.The Petty blue ones were not the usually blue ones that we know so well.

Craig:

Can't tell you anythihg about serial numbers and such. Can tell you, however, that these units were widely sold in the mid 70,s by discount retailers such as K-Mart, etc. I owned one just like you described.

Intrestingly, at the time Wal-Mart was practically unknown.

As best I know, Noma is the successor organization. The Dynamark really was a simple rider with not much to recommend it except low cost. The light weight was helpful when I had to lift the thing out of a hole by myself. Perhaps the Garden Tractor forum could help. The numbers probably have a date code in them.
