We have a MF 1855 garden tractor, hydrostat, 18 hp
Onan with 52" belly mower. Looking for a (small)
box blade for the 3 point. Runs great other than
the belts for the mower break easily and they are
costly. We paid 1500.00 and are happy.

I recently bought a Snapper 1855 and need the 3 point hitch, including the top bar with the center link. The garden tractor had been sitting for a while, but seems to be ok, having to replace belts and tires, nothing serious.

You are close - Massey had a line of garden tractors up until the late 70's, including the 1450, 1650, and 1655. They got out of the garden tractor business somewhere between '77 and '79. They sold the entire thing to Snapper, who continued the top of the line model (1655), except for switching to a 18 horse engine instead of the 16. If I remember right, the A designation was for models with the 3 point hitch. My father was a Massey garden tractor dealer starting in '77, then became a Snapper dealer when they made the switch. In '79 or '80, we sold an 1855A with the mower, 3-point tiller, PTO adapter (so they could run an auger with it), and front-mounted snowblower. The whole thing cost them over $10,000. It was worked hard on a farm, and several months ago, we bought the tractor itself back for $300 (It doesn't look like it is worth even that...) As far as parts, the other posters are right on about belts - Napa is best for that. Otherwise, Snapper dealers and Massey Ferguson dealers should be able to get most of the parts yet. Let me know if you need any specific information. I'm sure we still have owners and service manuals on these. Also, you can check my website for pictures of our 1655 garden tractor puller - you can see how one looks with about 125 horsepower.

I have a 1855 also and was told the same thing. If you are looking for the belts for the belly mower, I get mine from NAPA. They are about half the price of SNAPPER and last twice as long.

I am wanting to connect a Gravely L model 30" bush hog to the front of my 1855. Anybody have any ideas?

I've had an 1855A for 14 years and have enjoyed using it very much. One of the few negative issues I have with it is the inability to get mower deck parts for it. Certainly, this points to the manufacturer (Snapper, MF, AGCO ?). I would appreciate any info anybody might have about getting parts. Also, the Eaton Hydrostatic pump came with transmision fluid in it. I called Eaton and they recommended, depending on climate, straight 10, 20, or 30w oil (N.Mid-West I use 20w). The timing belts for the mower deck are equal to automotive timing belts. So the person responding to use NAPA replacements was right on.

My mower deck is starting to look like a high school welding project. Does anybody have any insight on modifying any other mower decks out there to work on the 1655/1855? I'd be thankful for any info.

: Randy, I also recently purchased a MF 1655. It came with a MF5410 midmount mower deck, MF5430 snow blade, MF4250 rear mount tiller, and a Brinly tandem disc. The rear pto shaft is out of it now, I am having problems with a lot of blowby, so I will have to overhaul the motor this winter or put in a new one. I am sorry I can not answer any of your questions, but I aquired one of the microfish slides for it when I got it, so I may be of some help to you there. I would like to know how much you paid for yours, I paid 2,000 for mine, but I had no idea what it was worth. If we put them in the registry, maybe others will also and we can get a value established on them. Good to see your mail, look forward to your response.
