Buying a new place. The owners before had alpacas and just made long rows of manure and wood chips. Is this manure good for any thing. I have about 3 acers of iiragated alfafa field and two acers of dry pasture.could spread on either on alfafa if its good or the dry pasture if its junk and let the horse stomp it away. Thanks

Llama and alpaca manure is low acid and you can use it right away, don't really need to compost it, but helps to grind it up. You'll see pellets for awhile but they will break down. We have 40 llamas and 2 alpacas, so we make LOTS of fresh every day.

I used fir and hemlock sawdust as a mulch on my potato rows, to keep the weeds down. It ruined the soil for 3 yrs, on that end of the garden. It still is laying fallow, but has a cover of clover on it now. I guess the plowing and rains, have rotted it by now. I'll never do that again!

Spread it!

Got llamas, and it is great fertilizer. Valued for gardeners, even house plants. Works like a time delay fertilizer. Also have sheep, and rabbits. Our garden is richest soil around.

Someone will correct me if im wrong, but i think that wood chips will collect nitrogen and not release it. I know i heard something about wood and fertilizers once but cant remember for sure.

Now we are talking about something I know. We have raised Alpacas and Paco-Vicuna for 15 years.
We have 300 head. Alpaca manure is the best. Green house, community Gardens, Every one wants it. Some times I have to tell them I'm out, but make it fresh daily. It is not hot like other manure, and can be put on anytime. We also but down wood pellets so the compost is even better. E-mail me if you need more info.

Depends on how well the alpacas were fed!
