I have had good luck in the past with I & T manuals, so when I bought a Massey Harris 50 I checked on a manual. I&T manual "MF-14 also covers several other models, yet the book is so thin it required a piece of cardboard inside so it would stand up inside the cellophane. How much info can there be in a book that thin and covering so many models? I don't want to spend twenty some dollars for nothing. thanks doorman

Most of the info contained in I&T Manuals is reprinted from original manufacturers manuals with a great deal of the (IMPORTANAT) info left out. And for some reason, I&T seems to print erronious info at times. I"ve found several errors, especially in the Massey Ferguson manuals. Enough wrong so that I don"t trust ANYTHING I read in them. I don"t consider a simple owners manual sufficient. I like OEM owners, service, parts, and even tech service manuals when I can get them. Most cases, that"s a stack of pages several inches thick. Hard to pack all that info, for several models at that, into a 1/4" thick manual.

They do number the pages correctly...usually.

I really like them for quick reference, but can't say I've bought any recently. Last Deere dealer I worked for, we had hundreds of them, and I now have them all here. I've got three stacks, each three feet high. I especially like the Standard Units editions with all the carb, magneto, and other component tech. data. Most have price tags on them of $3 each and a few $2.50, so things have changed a bit.

They are concise and leave out all the fluff. For that reason, I prefer them over factory manuals for many repairs. If I have to do something in depth, then I use the factory manual.

When I buy a manual for something specific, I don't need it to waste paper on instructions on "how to use a screwdriver", or how to work safely, etc., &c. Many of the older I&T manuals used to use a common phrase - which I love - "assembly is self-evident." Translated, they are saying - if you are too d*mn dumb to figure this one out, there's no hope for you."

IT manuals are very handy. They can hold doors or windows open. They can sit on the bench so the factory manual placed on top of them doesn't get greasy. And IT manuals work good in the vice to prevent marring soft metals.

If it's anything like the I&T manual for my Farmall M, it has all of the differnt numbers (tolerances, measurements, torque specs) for a bunch of differnet models. It also has instructions on rebuilding and overhauling various componiets on the tractor. But, the thing is that they seem to be written for the professional mechanic that works on tractors every day, becasue the descriptions are pretty sparse and there's not that many pictures.

Anyway, I bought a reprint of the orginal Operators Manual for my M. That had a bunch of useful info in it. And since it's an "Operator's Manual," and since it from the 40's, it has all sorts of good info on regualr maintenance and whatnot. Not like Operator's manuals on things today that read more like "Step 1, turn key. If key doesn't turn, call mechanic."

Bottom line, in the process of using and working on my M, I've refernced my Operator's manual many times. I've also searched and asked quesionts on this site many times. I've only used that I&T manual once or twice.
