Does anyone have a set hanging they could measure, I've found a couple sets alleged to be for 13.6x28, but one set I tried was too small, probably for a IH Cub, as the seller, who restores those, got a few pairs when buying tractors and or parts. Set was nice double rings too, twice as many cross chains. The other set was alleged to have been on Ferguson 35, which would appear to have that size tire, they are about 9 or 10'long if I recall correctly and 21" wide. Just wondering what the dimensions are to confirm any I find will work.

I would assume that measuring the sidewall where the outside chain holding the cross chains would give you a close enough dimension, like a dummy, before I went over to the guys shop, I measured the outside circumference !

for double ring chains, 9 rings will be best on a 13.6 tire. 7 ring will work if you keep them tight. length can be figured as noted below. there were a lot of chains for 13.6x38 tires around that could be cut shorter if you find a set. hth

The ones I tried on the tire were 5 rings across, looking at the photos in the ad, might have been the other set, which look to be 7 rings across, about 21" across, probably the set they had used on the MF 35. If the set I tried was wide enough, I would have definitely took em and lengthened same, bought the cross links/tool etc. every other link had a cross chain, nice set, not worn either.

There is some variability depending on how far down the sidewalls the side chains run. The chains you describe should fit fine, as I recall, I would have to get my set down to measure.

Thanks, I could measure a set too, 'cept they're already on a tractor 30 miles north of here, items like these usually move fast, so in an attempt to see if any fit, figured someone may know here, appreciate the help, as now at least I've got an idea, boy that set with the extra cross chains sure sat nice on those tires not settling into the tread, don't recall seeing double rings chains like that before.

Not all that hard to figure out if you have the tractor on hand you want the chain for. Measure how far it is for upper middle of the side wall for how wide they need to be. Then make a mark on the tire and get it at the bottom then roll it forward one full turn and measure from start to finish and you have it real close. I have chains I use on a tire that size but I made them from a couple of junk sets so what I have would not measure out well

That would work wouldn't it.... been several sets of double rings up for sale, lots of times people may not know what they were on, me trying to save a buck... I paid for the set I tried, seller said bring em back if not, paid me back, but he's got that other set, at about 7 rings across, will have to see what it measures up to be. Been looking and or keeping tabs on ads etc. to save a buck, better to have em fit right though. Could probably can get away without em like I have, just that extra bit of traction in that snow pack and ice build up on the sloped portion of the driveway is just enough to need em.

Save a buck LOL. All the sets I have I built from grader chains I got pretty much for free from the local road dept. They sell or throw to old chains away from the road grader when they start braking a chain part here and there and I snapped them up. Cost very little as in free or scrap price

Rich, thats the way to do it whenever possible and you're quite good at it ! I get a big kick out of something made useful, that was going to be tossed, scrapped or what have you. You should see my bucket forks, I made them from lift arms off a vehicle lift, lift was gone, but the arms were left behind in a shop I removed 3 lifts from. Kind of heavy and awkward, but they do work quite well, and I got your price on them LOL.. well minus some welding electrode.

Ya most of the buildings I have are from salvage stuff. My shop cost me less then $300 to build and my hay barn the same. Chicken house if an old travel trailer that a guy gave me for hauling it away for him and the list could go on and on
