Considering purchasing a MIG welder, looking at the Lincoln SP-125Plus or the SP-175Plus. Does anyone have one of these units and how well do they work?
Would also welcome thoughts on Hobart and Miller MIG welders. Thanks in advance,

I purchased a used SP125 around six months ago and I am extremely pleased with it. I use it at least every few days, and the only problem I have had with it was a kink in the liner. I use it mostly for autobody repairs, but it also worked well welding up several thousand feet of 16 guage pipe on a four rail fence. I would suggest using the gas instead of the flux cored wire. The gas allows you to weld on a lower setting and with less splatter. This is also my opinion, you may want to try the flux before paying for the gas bottle. Well I have said enough. Good luck and have fun.

Bought a SP125 Plus little over a year ago. Does a find job on light to medium steel. I found I was welding or laying a bead too fast, which is one the most common problems for neophyte welders like me. Wire feed welders don't work well outside, unless you shield the work VERY WELL from the wind....flux core wire does a little better that the gas setup, but the best outdoor welder is the stick welder. I really like the SP125 Plus. If you don't draw too many amps, it is super convenient to take with you someplace and plug into a standard 110V outlet. The SP 170 model is a 220 V type I think.

Hope this helps.

I have an SP-100, which I believe was replaced by the SP-125, using all purpose wire and Stargon (Which I think is the commercial name for what Bill described) and I've been VERY pleased with it. I maintain light farm equipment (Woods M5 bush-hog, Howard HR-6 rototiller, #67 Loader on my JD-750, etc.) and do light fabrication with it. No complaints at all, bearing in mind that it's designed for 1/4" or less steel. Wouldn't mind having a stick welder to go with it, but have only resorted to borrowing one perhaps 4 or 5 times since I got the Lincoln 7 years ago.

I have a Canox (Canadian Miller) Migmatic 200, and
I use ER70S-6 Wire(all position solid wire with
better weld characteristics than ER70S-3),with a gas mixture of 25% argon, 75% CO2. Works great, and I've had it for 8 years. I also have a Hobart
TR 250 stick machine that I prefer using over the MIG. It's a personal preference, that's all.
