The brass intake in the gas tank seems to get stuck. If I remove it and poke it loose it works, shut it off and its stuck again,is it carmelized due to old gas and is there way to free that little valve up.Could I soak it it paint thinner? Dan in AB

Use lacquer thinner or carb cleaner or paint thinner. The brass parts are not going to get hurt from the chemical.
I have a WM also; haven"t used it for a few years. When I shut it off, I would drain the gas tank to prevent fuel problems the next time.

The valve will hold enough gas to stick the ball even with tank drained.Try starting it after the tank has been drained to get rid of the gas in the valve. This is a common problem with these engines and later Briggs lawn mower engines.
