I usually get get answers from members of this forum, so here goes: I am using rough-sawn poplar (tulip popular, yellow popular) to built a cabin. Lumber was properly stacked when cut. It has air dried 4 or 5 months. A few boards have some green mold, also red mold on one or two pieces. I brushed it off, but spores are everywhere. Would laundry borax, mixed 1 lb per gal of water, and sprayed on the boards with a garden sprayer be something like the commerical product "Timbor?" Would it take care of the mold and future problems, if the wood is kept dry?

Bleach or laundry borax will be temporary fixes. Boracare is very expensive but is about all that the EPA will permit to be sold to homeowners.

I sprayed on 50/50 bleach+water on my mold. Looked like it removed it;but it came back in a month. next I'm trying 100% bleach & brush scrubbijg.

Yes, that's the problem. If common borax would work, it probably would stop future problems, as it would stay on/in the wood, unlike bleach.

Bleach would also be my answer, although I would probably go 50 50 with the water. bleach is cheap. I use it on a lot of different wood projects. This will kill the mold but it will also lighten the wood where ever you put it on, just like the ole washing machine. My deck at the back of the house, north side, can get pretty moldy some years. So I use a hand pump sprayer and spray the whole deck before resealing it. I believe there is also something you should use to keep the bugs away from it before you do any sealing of the wood. I've been told a clorox solution, about 25% clorox, 75% water does the trick.
