Most of the older two stage compressor run at recommended of 850 RPM. As you increase the RPM's you decrease the life of your compressor. Email me and I can send you the formula to determine what size motor shieve you will need with existing pump shieve to obtain 850 RPM's. I use motor with a max of 1725 rpm's for my compressors.

It should take 900 rpm easy. It depends on the pressure setting and the motor amp capacity. Spin it faster = max amp draw at lower pressure, but more air delivery. Spin it slower = max amp draw at higher pressure, but less air delivery. I can't stress this enough: For most people, it is advisable to sheave your motor for max air delivery at modest pressure (within the amp capabilities of the motor and rpm capabilites of the pump). 100 in, 130 out should be enough pressure for almost anything, and this is well withing the capacity of a single stage compressor too. Personally, I hate working around compressors turned up to within 5 psi of the safety relief valve because of nuisance tripping of the valve, and wondering if it out of control while waiting for it to achieve cut-out pressure.
