Any of you experenced haulers have any recommendations on brand names or type of electric trailer brake controllers? I've been looking at many models and brands. It seems to come down to the kind that activate everytime the truck brake pedal is depressed or the kind that use a pendulum to activate the trailer brakes. Any pros or cons on the 2 different types? Thanks in advance. Hope to be able to get my '49 Farmall H to some local shows here in Ohio this summer

I have a Tekonsha Sentinel, no problems, it is capable of stopping up to a quad axle (8 brakes).

Another vote for Tekonsha here. I have two, a Prodigy in my big truck, a Voyager in my Dakota. Both electronic, no leveling, adjustable for trailer load. EXCELLENT units. Not cheap, but ya gets what ya pays for.

Had an older Tekonsha pendulum unit in my big truck, bought it used and used it another 10 years before it finally croaked. It was okay, but these new electronic units are well worth the money IMHO.

My parents run a business, dad installs an average of 4 per week, ( all Tekonsha) with very little probs, if you do have one tekonsha stands behind them. Just got a new truck a couple of weeks ago and it will have one in it by the end of the day. Good luck and be careful, KS

I have a Tekonsha which I really like but purchased a Reese fully electronic unit from a friend and that is the cats meow! Don't have to adjust for level and the numbers make it easy to set back to a certain level for loaded and empty. However, new this thing is expensive and the Tekonsha does work just as well.

I agree with Shane. I bought a Reese last year and it works great. It was about $50 less than Prodigy and it was easy to install (Chevy is pre-wired - just buy the correct harness and plug it in under the dash).

What ever brand you select I would recommend the adjustable kind, that can be ajusted for empty trailer. It will keep you from skidding the tires every time you slow down.

Just get a Tekonsha contoller, set the gain and power level and forget it. Mounts almost anywhere and can be activated by hand (finger) if need be.
