I have been looking at the craftsman sockets at sears, that claim to remove rounded off bolt head. I am talking about high strength bolts like you would find in tractors, dozers, and ect. I Would like feed back from previous users before I invest my wifes money. Thanks in advance, alvinnms

I bought a set of the sprial flutted impact sockets from sears to remove a couple of rounded off bolts on my disc mowers cutter bar. They worked excellent. They are not a gimick but a profesional product being carried by sears. i.e. could have bought the same thing off the snap on truck.

If they are anything like the set I have from Matco, they are well worth the money...so far, I've never failed to get a rounded bolt out with them. And as a flat-rate mechanic, they have saved my butt a couple times now!

I have never used them, but they seem to be just another gimmick, marketed to the untrained, inexperienced, homeowner. I have serious doubts those things would be of any use to a real mechanic.

I have been welding a nut onto rounded and broken bolts. Is there a better way to remove a stubborn fastner.
Thanks, alvinnms

If you're going to be running into alot of broken studs, or rounded bolt heads, I would suggest getting a set of spiral extractor sockets. The old "welding the nut on " does work well, until you run into a tight spot that only a socket will fit. Just one of those things I've learned, wrenching on trucks & tractors the past 32 years
