I have a ford 302 engine and need to know the year and if it is a boss or not my engine id is : D1ZM-6015-AA 10H6

If any one could help please i need to know if internally or externally balanced thanks James

D means 1970's , 1 means 1, so it was built in 1971, i have a code book, i'll try to see what vehicle it was put into...

yep , all i can add to that is that the Z means mustang...6015 engine block, AA means design change, 10H6 means 1970 H is August 6 means 6th day of that month .....but my book does not go any further, you might look for an aluminum tag at the carburetor base bolts ,it would provide more information, could have been removed if a hot rodder ever played around with it much, like changing carb or manifold...

I cant tell anything about the numbers, does it have electronic fuel induction, a carberator, points in the dist.? those things will help narrow it down. If it is a boss 302 the bolts holding the fuel pump on will be one above the other, compared to the regular 302 where the bolts are side to side. Its been a long time, but I think the boss will have a dry intake also. As far as I know all 302s were exterior balanced, but in the early 80s they changed the balance, but still exterior. give some more details, someone will know what ya have.
