I am looking for information on this company. It was based in Waterloo Iowa until at least 1940. I can't seem to find even a trace of it though. So ANY information would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to find where to purchase a diaphram for a construction machinery co. FD-4 (4")pump (ser#134565) 15 1/4" OD, 5 1/4 ID. I haven't been able to track down the company either. Does anybody know where to get parts for this pump?

I am looking for information on a portable 3 inch water pump built by Construction Machinery Company.

This particular unit is a "Rain Master" Model SS-3H-10, Serial # 179697. It is powered by a Wisconsin Motor, Model: THD, Serial # 4023351.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Bryan Leonard

I grew up in Waterloo. The company you ask about was owned by a family named Holden. I recall Warren Holden was the President. I recall he lived out by the new country club. Warren Holden has a son named Sam who is presently a manager for some company in Manchester, Iowa. I'm sure Sam Holden is alive and well and would have much history about CMC. I recall there was a lawsuit involving Warren Holden's brother Herle Holden. That suit is reported in the Iowa Reports. CMC made the mixer that sits on a truck frame. Together the frame and the mixer are commonly called a Redi-mix truck. CMC only made the mixer. A typical mixer would hold 6 cubic yards of redi-mix concrete. The mixer has to keep turning and there is a water tank so you can add water to try to keep the mix from setting up before it gets delivered. I drove one in the summer of 1967. I know they (CMC) were still in business when I graduated from East High in 1963; and I'm pretty sure they were still in business in 1967. I think they went out of business after 1974, but I do not know for sure. The location of the plant is near East High School (corner of High and Vine). It is next to the intersection of the old Chicago Great Western tracks and the old Illinois Central tracks. Several years ago there was a large fire in about half of the buildings. The site is about 5 acres and it doesn't appear to be occupied at all. Much of the site is overgrown with weeds and small trees. I do not know who has title to the real estate but the county assessor's office could tell you that.
