I have a old single cylinder Wisconsion engine with a Fairbanks Morse magneto, model X. It will not put out any spanrk, but will deliver a pretty good shock. I have checked the wires, plug, points, and condenser, and they seem to be in good shape. I do not know when it last ran, but it has sat for at least ten years in the dessert. I checked the coil with an ohmmeter, and got 8.2 K through the secondary, and .5 ohms through the primary. Does this mean my coil is bad? If so, where can I get another one? Thanks. -John

There probably is a spring inside that causes a snap action at low speed. Make sure it isn't broken.

Your local NAPA Dealer will have or can get the coil for you. Also a Murcury Marine Dealer can get you on if you know the parts man. Some of the old Murcury outboards had the same coil but they seem to be a little hotter in the spark
