I got my tractor stuck in the pond (long story)and was able to free it a couple of days later. Only the back end of the tactor was under water, not the engine (it was at an angle). The tractor started fine, so I drained and replaced the oil and transmission fluid (looked like both had a little water in them) and started it up. The clutch had trouble engaging at first, but after a view trys it worked just fine, so I put the tractor up and did not used it for a month or so. I just tried to use the tractor again, but now the clutch will not engage no matter what I try. Is there anything I can do without spliting the tractor?

Stupid question, was it up-hill or down-hill?

Do you mean when you step on the pedal you still can't shift it?
Or do you mean that after you shift it into gear and let the clutch out it just sits there?

For symptom (1) the clutch disc is simply stuck to the flywheel. Breaking it loose is usually not that bad, hook to something solid in 4th gear, push down on the clutch and start it up.
For symptom (2) the release bearing is probably stuck on the tube that it slides on.

Thanks for the reply! It's more like the first one - I have to jam it into gear to get it going, and pushing down on the clutch does not stop the tractor - I have to cut off the tractor and then put it into neutural.

I'll try your solution (1) - thanks again.

I wouldn't hook it to any thing solid....might tear somthing up...put it in highest field gear not road gear....now start the tractor ,drive it around, holding the clutch down...drive over some rough ground...ground that will jolt the clutch plate loose from the flywheel....

If that don't work hook something to the drawbar (wagon).....good luck...

You have a simple and common problem. You have rust on the flywheel/pressure plate and that causes the disk to stick to one or both. Couple things you can d to fix the problem. Pull the starter off and spray brake cleaner in and around the clutch. Then put the starter back on and drive the tractor around a good bit pushing the clutch pedal down a lot and slipping the clutch just a tad to polish up the flywheel and pressure plate. When ever you pack it block the clutch pedal down and doing those things should fix your problem

Fixed it! I found a slight hill and put the tractor in the highest gear (3rd). Since the trator has to be in the "s" position to start, I had to jam it from "S" to "H" while the tractor was running and the clutch pushed in. The tractor went a few feet then stopped. After that, the clutch worked fine - no problems at all. But I will take the starter off and spray brake cleaner as you suggested - to prevent this from happening again. Thanks again guys for your advice - Much easier than spliting the tractor or taking to a Dealer to fix.
