I am a new tractor owner and new to the list so take pity if I say something stupid. I just bought the above described Ford 2000. Ran great when I checked it out but after getting it home and letting really run for a while a couple things happened that I don't know if should be worried about.
1. The temperature gauge pegged out to hot but it didn't seem that hot and didn't run at an idle any differently. Should I replace the instrument cluster as a start or is there a part father down the line that would make more sense to replace? If it is the gauge is there a cheaper more accurate way to go than buying the entire cluster (the tach doesn't work either). Or could this really be a cooling problem.
2. Runs great at mid throttle and in lower gears really cuts out at higher gears and throttle positions. I have no idea what to do about that and if I should even be concerned.
3. Bought it as is and it had no leaks after it warmed up there was oil leaking some where around the front of the engine and seeping down on the left side underneath the power steering pump. How do I investigate to see if that is signficant?
Thanks! |

| Ther should be no problem with your guage. It only moves where the sending unit tells it to and as long as it moves, it should be OK. The sending unit is on the front of the tractor above or around the water pump. There should be a wire attached to it. Ground the wire with the key on and the guage should peg. I would start with replacing the sending unit. The tac is mostlikely a broken cabl;e or sheared gear on the back of the generator. Disconnect it there and see if the fitting it fits into spins when the trator is running, Disconnect from the tac end with the gen end connected and see if it turns. If the cable turns, then thet tac is bad (it's very seldom this). For the running problem, follow everyone elses directions. Sounds like it's not getting enough fuel or the spark is not advancing properly. For the leak, use some degreaser and clean the front to see where the leak is coming from. If you need breakdowns, get an IT repair manual. |

| The oil leak, you'll have to post on the Ford board.Everything else,I'd just start with a general tuneup. Plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, points, condensor. If that doesn't do it,have the carburator rebuilt. All I can tell you when the problem is that general. |
