I was told by my neighbor (old timer farmer) that I could use 12 volt lights on my 6 volt system with no problem. I have no lights on my 8n, and snow is coming so I want to mount some on the front and back. 12 volt lights seem to be easier to find and a lot cheaper. Can I get away with doing this ? Thanks, Brian

At my local TSC.. the 6v lamps and the 12v lamps.. are the same price. you can get them with or without shells. with shells = more money.. but 6v and 12v cost no different.

as the others said.. unless ya want orange dim headlamps.. get 6v's since you are buying them..

Weak lights/Lucas joke... in reply to machinistbcb, 12-01-2007 19:16:24
Using 12 volt lights on a 6 volt System... this sounds like the buildup to a Lucas joke!

Seriously, though, unless you replace the bulbs or sealed beam units with their 6-Volt equivalents, your aren't going to have much light!

Got to hear most of 'em 40 years ago, when I owned an Austin Healey. Actually, I experienced most of 'em firsthand...THEN heard the jokes. ;o)

Back then a guy told me most of their problems were due to "postive earth". My retort was that it didn't seem to bother 9Ns or 8Ns much.

They will be real dim. You should be able to find 6 volt bulbs to install in your light fixtures at any decent parts store.
