I need to replace my 12v coil on my 1950 8n, it had been converted by the previous owner. It is a round coil, Since it originaly came with a 6 volt coil thats what I will get if I ask the parts person for a coil for a 1950 8n. When ordering the coil what vehicle should I say it"s for ? I have a NAPA part # 1c14SB, but if I go somewhere else to get the part what vehicle will have the same coil as I need?
Thanks
Steve

If you have the NAPA part number for the 12V internal resistance coil (IC-14SB), why do you need a vehicle to associater that with? Just go to NAPA and plunk down ~$15 and the correct coil is yours.
If you trying to order off a web site, you"ll have to find one that sells tractor parts not auto parts. They seldom have the parts required by these old machines. They are mass mechandisers and us old tractor guys are in a very small minority.

All I see is the "Flame Thrower" coil, now wite this down in yer book, the "Flame Thrower" is designed to be used with electronic ignition, can be used with points but will roast the points if a resistor is not used to cut the voltage.

I didn't know that . I thought that all 12v can coils were the same but never gave the point factor a guess . I understand now .

I looked on a competitors site and only saw a heavy duty 12v can coil , so I would assume the same applies to it . Thanks for the insight - Ken(Ark)

Clear it up a little more, i spec the IC14SB has a built in internal resistor, the Flamer don't, Its HOT, were are the experts when ya need'em.

I spec if PerTronix Made this public it would kill their coil sales, see Its EZ'er to tell a customer they need the OEM resistor after the sale than B-4. Or put a better after the sale and they git the call "I need help I'M kill'in points". NO were on the box are in the structions does it tell ya to run a OEM resistor on a point system NO WERE but make the call interragate the tech on the tech line and he will spill the beans. BUT it comes in a rite nice box with flames and comes in chrome for a extra buck or 2. I would challenge them to D-mith what I have said and take the spank'in standing up. I will say if one goes hole hog with their system its the rite way to go, flame on it will knock yer pecker in the dirt.

Not an expert.. but i have slept in a few hotels before!

I suspect the flame thrower coil is hotter due to it have ing a lower resistance.. and thus needing that ei that will withstand more than regular ignition current.

the ic14sb already has sufficient primary resistance due to wire gauge and length of the primary circuit to handle 12v ignition systems with no extra resistors.
