OLD...

With an answer like that, WHERE 'YA BEEN LATELY???

There's been a LOT of discussion about this, lately, and the consensus still is that a resistor IS needed with the "so-called" 12-Volt square-can coils for the front-mount distributor.

Some "so-called" 12-Volt front-mount coils spark happily along with the OEM PTC ballast resistor left in place in the circuit, others need the lower resistance of Dell's 1/2 Ohm "trick current limiting resistor.

The difference is that there are apparently several different versions of the "12-Volt" coils being sold, with different primary winding resistance.

Well as I said or should have said a true 12 volt coil doesn't or shouldn't need one. But some of the cheaper coils aren't made as well and do need them. Either still needs the stock resister in the circuit. But I also try to do my best to stay away from working on any more front mounts if I can. I have got to where I just plain hate them. Side mount I like but I will never buy another front mount.

1.) As far as anyone seems to know there is NO SUCH THING as a "true" "12-Volt" coil for the front-mounts, so the "12-Volt coil thing" is a moot point.

2.) And, since the owner is posting, he doesn't have the "option" of "running away from it"!

3.) NO big deal... with the proper primary circuit resistance, the coil and points will function for YEARS with no problems.

If its a 12 volt coil no resister is needed.
