I just converted a 1950 8N to 12v. I was so happy it started after the first crank. My problem is I can't get the alternator to excite. I had the alternator checked out at auto zone. It came back good. I have tried all the ways described on this forum. Is it possible the battery is bad? After a full charge it only puts out 12.7v. I need help!!!

Spanky, with the tractor running, look at the battery with an analog meter, and if it`s charging, it should read closer to 14 volts. If its a 1 wire alternator, you need to exite around 1800 rpm `s if I remember right. A little more detailed for 3 wire alt.
