Hello Ladies and Gents:
New to board. Appreciate your combined knowledge.

Front mount 8n. New parts and wires. 12v conversion. followed wiring diagrams (myoldfords) exactly.
Problem: Hooking up battery-engine will turn over without key or starter button activation. New solenoid will click when starter button pushed.
What am I missing? thanks in advance

Had a similar problem when I rewired my 6 volt 8N. After starting my tractor would not turn off with key. I had a wire going to the wrong side of the terminal block. Chanches are you do not have it wired correctly. I would check other diagrams to see how they compare. Here is a link to a pretty good one. Link

Did you replace the soliniod?? If so you probably have the wrong type. Also just to let you know, the ignition switch can be on or off and the starter on these Ns will turn the engine over when you hit the button.
