what is the difference on the wiring a three wire alt and a single wire alt using a 6v coil. had the tractor turning over but have no spark. I am guessing my coil is bad and or condenser. I have a good wire diagram for 3 wire but not a single wire alt. Just not sure on wiring????

Mike

It matters not to the ignition system, for starting, at least, whether you have a 1- wire or a 3-wire alternator.

If you are using the original, square-can 6-Volt coil, you need to keep the original ballast resistor in the circuit, and add a "converting resistor of about 1.6 Ohms.

Get the ignition system working and get the engine running, and THEN you can troubleshoot the charging system

Well if your hooking up a 1 wire you run that 1 wire to the battery or hot side of the soliniod and you put a ballast resister in the wire going from the switch to the coil and your done. Problem with the 1 wire is it takes max RPM to start it to chargeing.
