What alternator is recommended for the 8N conversion? How many amps are necessary? Will most universal brackets work? Thanks, Jim

Jim..... ...most 12v conversions use the cheap and popularily available Delco 10-SI alternator with built-in voltage regulator. Alternator bracketts are DIFFERENT, depending upon wheather you are replacing yer 4-nipple frontmount r/h side genny ...or... replacing yer 5-nipple sidemount l/h genny. You can gitt'em already checked outta the $20 barrell at the used parts emporium, or squander yer filthy lucre on a rebuilt version for $100. Since yer OEM 6-volt genny was only a 20A genny, and the Delco 12-volt alternator is good for a minimum of 50A, (some are good for 90A). Your call..... ...respectfully, Dell, a 12-volt advocate for the right reason
