Recently purchased 8n, pretty nice ol" tractor.
Someone has converted it to 12 volt. BUT...
There is no cover where the coil used to be. Is
open to the elements, dirt,dust, moisture. What is used in place of the old coil??
Thanx for any help guys....

If it is working the way it is, and you're satisfied with the conversion, simply make a cover out of steel sheet, and fasten it to the distributor by drilling and tapping a couple of #6-32 holes, and screw it down. If you don't want to drill and tap, put a bead of silcone sealant on the top of the distributor, and simply stick the cover down with that.

As disturbing as this can be to the "purists", a modern round-can coil is better than the piece of crap distributor-top square-can coil any day of the week!

I'm guessing you have a front dist. and some put a round coil on it and just left the top of the dist open. Best way to fix that is the remove the round coil and buy a new square can coil in 12 volt and put it on. Cost is around $60, problem fixed

The price I quoted was from my local O'Reallys auto parts store. I hate to wait on parts at times. Plus shipping would add a few buck also
